3. Visiting our website

It is technically unavoidable that certain information is collected every time you visit our website. This information is mainly technical in nature but may be categorised as personal data by the courts. These data include your IP address, device ID, browser information, details of your operating system, language settings, referring URLs, duration of visits and pages displayed.

We do not use this information to identify the data subject. However, this information is needed to deliver our website content correctly, and in case of a cyber attack, in order to provide information needed to prosecute offences to the law enforcement authorities.

More extensive statistical analysis of these data is carried out only after all identifying information has been removed.

Our entitlement to process the aforementioned data arises firstly from our legitimate interest in operating a website (Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation). Regarding the use of data for the purpose of provision to the law enforcement authorities, our entitlement is based on our obligation to provide information to the law enforcement authorities in case of a cyber attack (Article 6(1)© of the General Data Protection Regulation).

Otherwise, the data are transmitted only to our hosting provider, who hosts the website on our behalf.

We plan to retain the above personal data for a period of seven days and then to erase them.

We do not intend to transmit the data to third countries outside the European Economic Area.

4. Using the contact form

We provide a contact form that you can use to get it touch with us. You do not need to use the contact form to use the rest of the website. If you do use the contact form, we will record your name, your email address, university, faculty, positon, your phone number (if you choose to submit that), the subject and the content of your message and the time it was sent. We will use these data to respond to your enquiry or to pass it on to relevant subsidiaries of the ENVI_MET if the enquiry is directed at them. In processing these data, we pursue a legitimate interest in responding to your enquiries (Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation). We are also obliged to retain data under commercial and tax law (Article 6(1)© of the General Data Protection Regulation).

We plan to retain the aforementioned personal data for a period of 10 years and then to erase them.

We do not intend to transmit the data to third countries outside the European Economic Area.

5. Google Fonts

This website uses external fonts from Google Fonts. Google Fonts is a Google service. The integration is accomplished by accessing a server which is usually one of Google’s servers located in the USA. The information which page of our website you have visited is submitted to the server. Also your IP address is retained by Google.

The operator of the Google Fonts component is Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Pkwy, Mountain View, CA 94043-1351, USA (“Google”). The purpose of the use of Google Fonts is the legitimate interest to display our website in our selected layout (Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation).

You can also prevent an automatic connection via your browser settings. Our page will still be accessible to you, except for the Google fonts.

We retain no personal data in connection with Google Fonts.

6: YouTube Player

We have integrated components of YouTube into this website. YouTube is an online video-portal that allows for publishers to upload video clips free of charge and for other users to view, rate and comment on those video clips. YouTube allows to publish all kinds of videos. That is why full movies and TV recordings as well as music video clips, trailers or user generated videos can be accessed via YouTube. The purpose of the integration is our legitimate interest, to present videos to you on our website (Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation).

The operator of the YouTube component is YouTube, LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA („YouTube“). YouTube is a subsidiary of Google. By accessing any page that a YouTube component (YouTube-Player) has been integrated into your browser will automatically download the respective component from YouTube. You can find more information about YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/intl/en/yt/about/. YouTube and Google will receive knowledge about which specific page of our website you have accessed through this technical procedure.

If you are logged into a YouTube account, YouTube identifies which specific page of our website you access. This information is collected by YouTube and Google and will be linked to your YouTube account. This happens irrespective of you clicking on a YouTube video or not. If you wish not to submit this information to YouTube and Google you can prevent this by logging out of your YouTube account before accessing our website.

You can also prevent an automatic connection via your browser settings. Our page will still be accessible to you, except for the videos.

7. DoubleClick

The YouTube Player (point 6) uses components of DoubleClick. DoubleClick is a Google brand that is used to provide online marketing solutions to advertisers and publishers. The operator of the DoubleClick component is Google Inc. as specified in point 5.

DoubleClick submits data to the DoubleClick-Server whenever a page is displayed or a click or another event is performed. Every submission of data triggers a cookie-request (point 10) to your browser. If your browser accepts that request (you can permit or deny this in your browser settings as explained in point 10) a cookie will be placed on your device.

The purpose of the cookie is the legitimate interest to show and optimize advertisements (Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation). The cookie is used to show user relevant advertisements and to create reports on campaigns or to improve them. Also, the purpose of the cookie is the legitimate interest to avoid to display the same advertisement multiple times (Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation). Further, the cookie allows to determine conversions which is the legitimate interest to earn commissions for business transactions based on our website(Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation). Conversions are determined for example when an advertisement has been displayed to a user who completes a purchase on the website of the advertising vendor using the same browser.

A cookie set by DoubleClick does not contain any personal data itself, only a unique ID-number. However, a DoubleClick cookie may contain additional campaign identifiers. Campaign identifiers are used to identify those campaigns that the user has been in touch with before. We retain no personal data in connection with DoubleClick.

8. jQuery

Our website uses jQuery. jQuery is a software library that used on many websites with what we pursue the legitimate interest to improve the graphical design and navigation of our website (Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation).

Google’s CDN (Content delivery network) is used. If you have used jQuery before on a different website of the jQuery CDN your browser will access the cached copy. If this does not apply, a download is necessary with what your data is submitted to the jQuery Foundation (“jQuery.org”) by your browser. Therewith your data is submitted to the United States of America.

We retain no personal data in connection with jQuery.

9. Matomo (previously known as Piwik)

We have integrated Matomo (previously known as Piwik)with anonymization function into this website. Matomo is a web analytics service. Web analytics is the collection, compilation and evaluation of data on the behaviour of visitors to websites. A web analytics service collects data on, among other things, the website from which a data subject accessed a website (“referrer”), what pages on the website the data subject accesses and how often, and how long pages are viewed for. Web analytics is frequently used to optimise websites and to carry out cost-benefit analysis of internet advertising.

The software is operated on our server. All personal data is stored exclusively on this server.

We use the Matomo component for the purpose of our legitimate interest in analysing visitor flows to our website (Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation). We use the data and information obtained on our behalf among other things to analyse use of our website for the purpose of compiling online reports for us showing activity on our website and to provide other services connected with use of our website.

Matomo places a cookie on your computer. We provide a detailed explanation of what cookies are in point 10 below. This cookie allows use of our website to be analysed. As a result of this technical operation we receive personal data such as your IP address, which are used among other things to determine the origin of visitors and clicks.

The cookie stores personal data such as the time the website was accessed, where it was accessed from, and the frequency of your visits to our website. Each time you visit our website, these personal data, including the IP address of the internet connection you are using, are submitted to us. We do not transmit the personal data to any third parties.

Data subjects can prevent our website from placing cookies on their computers at any time as described in point 10 by changing their browser settings to disable cookies permanently. Changing your settings in this way would also prevent Matomo from placing a cookie on your computer. In addition, any cookie already placed on your computer by Matomo can be deleted at any time using your internet browser or other software.

You can also opt out of the collection of data generated by Matomo relating to use of this website and the processing of such data. To do this you have to set an opt-out-cookie. However, if your computer is wiped, reformatted or reinstalled at a later date, the opt-out-cookie must be set again to disable Matomo.

Disabling Matomo as described using an opt-out-cookie may effect on the usability of our website.

10. Cookies

Under Articles 15-20 of the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to request information from us regarding the personal data concerning you that we have stored. You also have the right to request rectification, erasure or restriction of processing of personal data concerning you.

Regarding the processing of personal data based on our legitimate interests, you have the right, on grounds of your personal situation, to object at any time to the processing of your personal data (Article 21 of the General Data Protection Regulation).

You also have the right to complain to the supervisory authority if you believe that processing of your personal data infringes applicable data protection law.
