The Test Model control panel is designed to test your actual model configuration or some external Area Input File without actually starting the main model run.

Press Test Model Configuration (the caption will change according to the actual configuration file) to test and link all Database Files and input settings.
Then, check the output generated by ENVI-met to make sure that your package of Area Input File, Database Files and Main Configuration File contains valid links and settings.

However, a successful testing of the configuration does not mean, that the complete simulation run will be free of troubles, but it facilitates the debugging process!

You can use the Check some .IN file command to check any Area Input File without defining a Configuration File first. However, if you use additional local databases, they will not be found using this simple check method. In this case you need to build a Main Configuration File first.
